Praisedrummer.com Moved to a New Blog Platform

When I originally set up praisedrummer.com, I used a blog platform called Mango Blog. Mango is a very powerful blog and content tool written in Coldfusion. Since I have a strong background in Coldfusion, it seemed like a logical choice. However, since Mango is really only known to the CF community, there are not a lot of plugins, either free of paid. My working time is spent primarily on a 45+ hr/week day gig, a free lance web development and SEO gig, and playing drums, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for developing my own plugins or modifications. I made the decision last month to move over to WordPress. WordPress is a mature blogging and content management system with a worldwide network of developers creating free or inexpensive plugins, themes, etc. I’ve worked with WP on several projects and found it to be reliable and powerful. At this point all of the content has been moved over. I decided not to move over the comments, so if you added commentary in the past, feel free to add it again. I’ll be working on a new layout/design for the site over the coming weeks as time allows.

Carl Albrecht Video Review

Never heard of Carl Albrecht? Maybe you’re not familiar with the name, but if you have ever listened to artists such as Paul Baloche,Paul Overstreet, LeAnn Rimes, Connie
Smith, Don Potter, Jason Upton, Travis Cottrell, Tom Lane, Tim Hughes and many others, you have heard his work. Carl has been playing drums and percussion for over 30 years. He is based in Nashville, where he does session work, writes, produces, and also tours with various artists. Carl is also an educator, and has put together some DVD’s specifically geared to praise drummers. I recently bought a copy fo “Drum Grooves for Worship”, and decided to post my thoughts. Matthew Jackson Article

Matthew Jackson has a new article over at the Praisedrummer Forum dealing with coloring and texturing with the drum kit. In his first installment, Matthew writes about choosing and playing chimes as an addition to the drum kit. If you are playing drums in a church without the benefit of a percussionist, this article series will be of special interest to you. If you do play along with a percussionist, however, there are situations in which you may be called upon for the color and texture as well. Check it out!

While you’re at it, tell us what chimes you use, if any, and the pros & cons. We are always willing to talk about gear!

Welcome to Praisedrummer.com

Praise Drummer? What, we’re here to praise drummers? No, this site is called praise drummer for all of the drummers out there using their talents and skills to play music to honor God. Besides, praise drummer sounds cooler than church drummer. Some months ago a ran across a site called Christiandrummers.net, based in the UK. I thought about it for a while, then decided we needed a presence here in the USA. Not that we’re being restrictive, any and all are invited to participate. In fact, no matter where you, our door is always open. If you are a drummer playing praise & worship music, a drummer who happens to be a Christian, or whatever your situation, we welcome all.
